Hi there encyclotek fans and welcome to another article. I just got off from work and was thinking…. “How can I help you guys out today?” Then it accured to me as I just finished working with some excel document. So here it is. How to move excel sheet to another spreadsheet / excel document. Since we are on it it is important to note that this can be done with multiple tabs as well. Move them all from one spreadsheet document to another.
This is great when you are working with formulas and doing various calculations. It makes your life so much easier. Specially if you are copying information (which contains formulas) from one file data to another. You can keep all your calculations and formulas pulling, not from separate spreadsheet documents but from one single document.
The concept is pretty simple and involves just a few steps. For the purpose of this excel tutorial article we will refer to one document as Document A and the other as Document B. We will look at how to move a sheet from Document A to Document B. So you can work with all the data from the tab in Document A right from Document B. This will also give you the capability to keep all similar data together in one excel file.
How to Move Excel Sheets from Document A to Document B
Ok, once you have document A and document B open let us begin
- Ensure you are on document A, because this is where you want to move the sheet/tab from
- Right click on the tab / sheet that you want to move to “Document B” and select Move or Copy…
- Next you will get a popup window asking you to move selected sheets. This will also show you the book (document A) that you are working in.
- Click the drop down menu where Document A.xlsx is showing and select Document B.xlsx
- This will tell the operation that you are moving from document A to document B.
- Now you can select if you want to move the selected document from document A before or after any sheet in Document B. Or you can (move to end)
- Finally, you have the option to move the entire sheet or just move a copy of the sheet. This copy will be a complete replica of the sheet even with formulas and all. If you want a copy move check the box that says “Create a copy” and then click OK.
And just like that you have moved your file from one Excel document to another. You can now begin working in just one file instead of two. As mentioned before this can be done with mulitple sheets and make your work a lot easier.
I know within this article there was a lot of back and forth dealing with document A and document B and this and that. It is never my intention to make anything explained by complicated. So here you go, I have put together a video tutorial on this topic. Go ahead and check it out below. If you found this article useful any at all please like, share and comment.
