How to Enable and Disable all Startup Applications on Windows

Ever wonder why your computer takes so long to bootup? Why it takes such a long time to get ready for you to work? For many, they experience this even with a new computer. After a little installation here and a little installation there. Suddenly they realize that they computer just keeps getting slower and slower. In this article we will look at one of the biggest culprits for this and just how to fix this issue or the very least, how to manage it. Let us look at how to enable or disable startup applications on windows.

As you can image if your computer has more than a certain amount of programs or applications to load when it is trying to startup this can be an issue. The more it has to load, the more time it will take to get from point A to point B. Like anything in life, more burden slows you down. However, many people do not know that as they install a lot of programs they automatically are made to set to load at startup by default.

We need to know how to find these and how to disable them. Or at least, we can chose which to load at startup and which to ignore. Also, in doing so you will still have access to all your programs and apps just not readily from startup.

How to Locate Startup Applications or Programs on Windows

Once your computer is on complete the following:

  • Hold down the following keys Ctrl+Alt+Delete. You will see a window like this:
How to access and enable or disable startup applications on windows
Accessing Startup Application on Windows
  • Go to Task Manager
  • Next look for Startup in the top tab options.

From here you should see the following headings: Name – Publisher – Status – Startup impact. Under Status you will see what is Enabled and what is Disabled. Click on any of the applications or programs you wish to modify. In the lower right hand corner you will see how to disable (if it was enabled) or how to enable (if it was disabled).

If you click on an application or program and the option to “Enable” or to “Disable” is blanked out, this means that that item is important. Usually to the security if your computer or to its functionality. Hence, this item should not be tampered with. So, now you can go ahead and enable or disable startup applications on windows that you do not need to load at startup. This should have your computer booting and starting up much much faster the more of these you disable. Enjoy.
